History of Computer:
1. Abacus:
Key points
- Simple calculating device
- 5000
- Addition and subtraction
- Wooden rack (horizontal wires with beads)
Definition: Abacus was a simple calculating device. It was developed 5000 years ago. it was used to perform simple addition and subtraction. Abacus was a wooden rack. it contained horizontal wires with beads strung on them. The bead across the wires could move easily. These beads were moved across the wires, according to specified rules to perform the simple arithmetic operation
2. Napier's Bones:
- John Napier ( Scottish Mathematician)
- Created logarithm table >Device consist of rod and slide rule
- Slide rule use the concept of logarithms
- Calculate square root, log, sine, cosine, and tangent
- Used till the middle of 1971Is
Definition: John Napier was a Scottish mathematician. He created logarithm tables for arithmetic calculating. He also developed a calculating device using the rod, known as Napier's bones. The calculating device "slide rule "was also developed using the concept of logarithms. The slide rule could be used to perform simple arithmetic operations. It was also used to calculate the square root, log, cosine, and tangent. The slides rule was used till the middle of the 1970s.
3.Pascal line Calculator:
Key points
- Pascal (french scientist)
- First mechanical calculating
- Consist wheels and gear
- E"h wheel displayed 0 to 9
- Addition and subtraction multiplication division
- Not reliable and accurate
Definition: Pascal was a French scientist. he invented the first mechanical calculating machine. This calculating device was named a masculine calculator. this calculating machine consisted of a series of wheels or gears. Each wheel displayed digits from 0 to 9. this calculating machine performed the arithmetic operation and displayed the number by rotation of different wheels was rotated in steps.
The Pascal calculating machine could only perform the addition and subtraction and multiplication, division. It is was not a reliable and accurate device
Von Leibniz:
- Charles Babbage
- Born 1791
- Died 1871
- Professor of mathematics at
- Cambridge university of UK
A)Difference Engine:
- Develop in 1822
- Automatically mechanical device
- Worked stream power
- Accurate calculation
- Print the result
B)Analytical Engine
- Develop in 1832
- First auto programmable
- Operate by steam power
- Required only one person
